Tell us about your personal wellness journey. What led you to where you are now?

“When both my sons were diagnosed with autism as toddlers, I knew I needed to take charge of my wellness and find ways to manage stress. About 12 years ago, I began with practicing Kundalini yoga which helped me destress, but it also helped me tap into the light within myself and helped me connect with universal energy. In 2020 this connection helped me start strong on my Reiki practitioner journey.”

“The first person I ever Reiki'd asked how many years I had been practicing, and my answer was, ‘Uhm...about two minutes.’ My connection to universal energy and the Divine has grown exponentially since then. This connection also launched my journey into intuitive card reading. In 2019 I attended Barefoot and Free Yoga Festival at Proud Lake. During one of the breakout sessions an instructor asked participants to pull a card from her deck. The card I pulled was so spot on!! It completely resonated with where I was on my spiritual journey. After that, I started a deep dive into everything I could learn about card decks, including the differences between affirmation, oracle, and tarot decks, their histories and how to read cards for myself and others.”

How did you come up with the idea for your business?

“My business started with math tutoring. I have been a long-term substitute math teacher at Dakota High School since 2015. Whenever the teachers returned and I left a substitute assignment, students would track me down for math tutoring. I helped students gain math confidence and feel less stress about interacting with teachers. As I noticed more non-math questions come up, I trained to became a Certified Professional Coach specializing in young adults to provide support for their transitional years of completing high school and starting their journey into adulthood.”

“I decided I wanted my business to be a wellness center that offered multiple modalities to help with overall wellness, not just math and young adult coaching. As my spiritual journey progressed, I began to add modalities that resonated most with me: one-on-one yoga, Reiki, mindfulness coaching, mediation workshops and intuitive card readings. We are also adding The Crystal Cave, a crystal and card deck shop, to the wellness center in November 2023.”

How did you start your business?

“I began math tutoring and young adult coaching in local libraries but I wanted to find a location that was safer and not dependent on library hours for scheduling. In June 2019 I found a suite in Shelby Township that was perfect for tutoring and coaching. The suite next to it had an adjoining door, and there was a gentleman renting it that was a bit loud, so I had to insulate the door to soundproof him.”

“Just after I moved in, I visited my dad up north. He had Parkinson's disease so sometimes he was not always present during conversations. During the trip I told him about my business and I mentioned that I wished the guy next door would move out because then I'd rent that suite and convert it into a yoga studio. My dad was VERY present during this conversation and he said very proudly with a HUGE smile on his face, “That's wonderful!! The world needs more healers - that's so great!!” He passed away that September. Within a week of my father's passing, the guy next door unexpectedly moved out. I acquired the space and converted it into a yoga studio. Thanks Dad!!!”

Knowing what you know now, is there anything you would have done differently when you were first starting out?

“I spent much of my early business days keeping the woo-woo on the down-low. My spiritual practice was a secret that I whispered only if parents brought it up first. I had separate business cards for different offerings to keep everything safe. I was afraid that the parents of the students I worked with would be put off or frightened because many are from a more conservative demographic. Yes, I lost some customers because of my offerings, especially intuitive card readings, but now I know I was meant to lose them. I wish I would have embraced the woo-woo earlier because the clients who were meant to find me would have found me sooner. It's better to be who you are than try to please everyone.”

What is the best business advice you've ever been given?

“Under promise and over deliver. Also, you are your ideal customer.”

How do you persevere in challenging times?

“I trust that the universe has my back. I know that obstacles are detours in the right direction and everything is based on Divine timing, not my timing.”

What impact do you want your business to have?

“I have a quote in the wellness center that says, ‘If you want to bring peace to the world, make you own life peaceful.’ I want my business to create a ripple effect of healing. As we heal, we help others heal. Also I am a strong advocate for spiritual education, or as I like to call it Soul Tutoring. This fall we are offering Reiki practitioner classes with the hope of bringing more healers to world.”

What knowledge would you share with someone who wants to become an entrepreneur of a wellness business?

“Trust yourself and just start doing it! You don't need one more class before you start - just start. Don't wait for the perfect moment - make this moment perfect and GO!”

What do you do for personal and professional development?

“I LOVE The Muniverse, Alex Hormozi, and I have an account on Mastermind.com. I have created my own online courses on the Mastermind.com platform, but there is additional training with Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi. I have also really enjoyed Colette Baron-Reid's Spirit of Your Business class and Radleigh Valentine's Launch Your Tarot Business for spiritual entrepreneurs - this course is co created with The Muniverse (Muni Syed).”

What mantra or quote do you live by?

“If it comes, let it. If it goes, let it.”

“Kundalini yoga”

What are a few of your favorite wellness products, and why?
